BARRINGTON PARENTS UNITED JUNE Update & Calls To Action
Two School Committee meetings THIS WEEK: Please ATTEND IN PERSON - particularly the Policy meeting, as the SC chooses not to record these. PLEASE RECORD if you can, and contact BPU with your recording. Also note, the Business mtg. will have a second read of the COVID-19 policy that is at the heart of multiple tax-payer funded lawsuits and may be invalid due to the court determination that the SC violated the OMA when initiating the original policy:

***SUPPORT S-2219 and H-8230*** Push these bi-partisan identical companion bills over the finish line to protect children from sexual predators by defining "any act of sexual penetration or contact perpetrated by an individual with a position of authority upon a person over the age of fourteen (14) and under the age of eighteen (18) as third degree sexual assault."
Note the exceptions:
(iii) It shall not be a violation of subsection (b)(2) of this section if the parties are:
(A) Engaging in sexual penetration or contact consensually;
(B) Between the ages of sixteen (16) and twenty (20) years; and
(C) No more than thirty (30) months apart in age.
CALL and EMAIL Barrington's state Senator, Cynthia Coyne, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and ask her to move this out of committee and to the Senate floor for a YES vote ASAP - before session ends any day! Do the same for Representative Robert Craven, Chair in the House Judiciary and for Barrington State Rep. Jason Knight, also on the committee..
CONTACT the entire GA to let them know you want them to sign on and vote YES to get these bills passed ASAP.

Our kids deserve these protections from predatory adults in positions of authority and power in their lives. Please help them!
Scott Fuller, Republican candidate for State Representative, District 67, Barrington-Warren, has stated prioritization of advocacy for "parents to have a voice in matters of health, curriculum & school choice", which is well-aligned with BPU's efforts. If you would like to speak with him, donate to, or volunteer for his campaign, please reach out to him at the link above or at the contact info here.
While the academic school year is coming to a close, there are many reasons to stay engaged in preparation for the fall. Many eyes and ears continue to be needed in order to advocate for children based on facts, transparency, and accountability. Thank you for showing up and doing the work!
